Between the airport and Titilaka, lies Lampa, a former Spanish stronghold that remains a gem of colonial architecture. Known as the “Pink City” for the vivid coloring of its town walls, Lampa’s highlights include its church, mansions, and squares built during the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries. The church houses mysterious catacombs and an impressive replica of Michelangelo’s “La Pietá.” Rumor has it that when the original, in Saint Peter’s Basilica, was damaged, restorers came from Italy to Lampa to see how it was meant to look.
